Eligibility criteria for course options in New Zealand after 3 years polytechnic diploma

In order to get admission in a good university or institute in New Zealand, the international students are required to meet 2 very important requirements among others.

For bachelors and level 6 diploma programs the students must have scored at least 65% in their 12th class education. This requirement varies from program to program and also depends on which university you wish to study in New Zealand.

The other main requirement is to have proof of English language proficiency. International students whose first language is not English can give any of the following exams: IELTS, TOEFL or PTE.

You must score a minimum of 6.0 overall bands (5.5 bands in each module) in the IELTS exam and equivalent scores if giving any other exam.

Indian students who want to study in New Zealand after doing 3 years polytechnic diploma, must note that they are eligible to get 6 months of prior recognition, if they do a bachelor or level 6 diploma program in Civil engineering and Electrical/Electronic engineering. For instance, a 2 year program can be completed in 1.5 years.

Post study work visa conditions after study in New Zealand

In case the international students have completed a bachelor’s program in New Zealand, they can get up to 3 years of post-study work visa.

Before choosing to do a level 6 diploma program in New Zealand, students must check if the program comes under the Green List of New Zealand, because if the program does not come under the green list the international students might not be eligible for post study work visa.

For level 6 programs which fall under the green list, the duration of post study work visa in New Zealand is equal to the duration of the program. For example, after a 2 year diploma program, the students can enjoy 2 years of post study work visa.

Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) can be completed in 3 years fulltime at Unitec Institute of Technology. The international students can apply for the February or July intake every year.
