The degree of Doctor of Philosophy is done under the surveillance of at least two staff members of the University of Waikato’s Research Department. A PhD can also be presented in two manners as a PhD with Publication or a PhD with a Creative Practice Component. The research is sole work of the student for which the candidate has to write the thesis with the intention that papers may be published

- IELTS 6.5 score overall no less than 6.0 in writing especially.
- iBT (internet based) TOEFL – 90 with a score of 22 in writing
- Pearson PTE Academic – 65 with no less than 58 for each communicative skill
