Admission Requirements for Postgraduate Programs in Canada

Fast-track Diploma program – The program is for those who have completed their graduation and aim to further complement their achievements. The fast track program is of shorter duration than general programs and includes all the relevant courses. These courses also cost less owing to the shorter duration. Graduate Certificate program – The certificate programs enable undergraduate students to gain better understanding of their interest stream and make their skills current as per the industry requirements. These programs help students brush-up their existing skills and are available at community colleges of Canada. The duration of these courses ranges from few months to a year. The IELTS requirement is usually 5.5 bands or as per the institutional norms.

Post-Graduate Diploma program – The top institutions offering PG Diploma include Durham College, Algonquin College, Sheridan College, Seneca College, Humber College, etc. These courses improve the employability skills of the students and make them employment ready. The international student must have obtained a minimum of 60 percentile in undergraduate course. While for some courses, there is requirement of an industry experience such as Project Management, Business Administration, etc. The minimum required IELTS score is 6.5 bands and for nursing course, score requirement is 7 Band. Among students opting to study in Canada, PG Diplomas is the most desired program.

Post-Graduate Certificate program – The PG Certificate program is similar to post-graduate diploma program. Usually, the duration of a full-time postgraduate certificate program is one-year. The various programs include global business management, tourism management, accounting, human resource management, environmental engineering, etc.

Master’s program – The master’s level programs are highly accredited and follow a cumbersome process. There is faculty assessment requirement as well in some institutions in which specialized faculty is allocated for the program. There is also scholarship for scholarly students; even up to full tuition fee scholarship is provided to students of high intellect. To study in Canada in business schools (MBA, Finance, Accounting, etc.), there is requirement of GMAT exam and an adequate experience of 2 years. The masters program requires a prior education of 16 years in total or a four-year bachelor program. For professional programs like Medicine, Dentistry, Law; students are required to get registered with the appropriate regulatory authority. Sometimes, universities also require Letter of Intent; it is a document which is self written by student and explains his or her intention in detail regarding the study purpose, knowledge and intentions of the student. The IELTS requirement is at least 6.5 bands overall with no band less than 6. For different universities and colleges, there are different language proficiency requirements as per the ranking and grade of the institution. The renowned universities in Canada include Contelle University, Cape Breton University, Capilano University, York University and so forth.
