Last Updated on May 1, 2019 by West Highlander

Canada is the most preferred and sought after study destination among Indian students. No doubt, there are some good institutions in India offering qualitative education like IITs, IIMs, etc. but the student count has outlasted the institutional count and that too with an unmanageable number. Looking into the scenario of tertiary education, the theory practice is incapable of making students ready to opt for an actual job. These reasons have prompted students to look out for options at international level. Among various international study destinations, Canada offers most affordable, qualitative and globally recognized qualifications.
For study abroad aspirants, there are some admission requirements students are required to fulfill to attain study in Canada.
For the undergraduate programs, requirements are such as –

  • Language ability: Canada is a bilingual country with English and French being the official languages. To study in Canada, one has to attain proficiency in any of these languages. For English language proficiency, there are tests like IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, etc. For undergraduate programs, students have to attain at least 6 bands in each module in IELTS exam to become eligible under SDS scheme while for non-SDS, 5.5 bands are acceptable. The only difference in SDS scheme is faster and priority processing of application by visa authorities.
  • Senior secondary school: The student must have completed senior secondary level of examination and have passed with a decent percentile. The students are required to obtain transcripts for their academic achievements.
  • Letter of Recommendation: Some institutions in Canada demand LORs from student’s previous educators so as to learn about the student’s achievements, level of intelligence, performance and potential.
  • Minimum percentile: Some highly reputed institutions and for some professional courses like law; institutions demand minimum percentile as an eligibility requirement.

These are the eligibility requirements, students are required to fulfill to become eligible to study in Canada. Among the undergraduate programs, there are programs in diverse disciplines like Business, Health, Medicine, Law, Accounting, etc. The students can opt for bachelors or diploma program in Canada and sometimes certificates programs to become eligible for bachelors program.
