 After you have completed graduation, you must apply for a work permit under the Post Graduation Work permit Program (PGWPP).  There are a number of options for you to consider after you graduate, if you want to stay in Canada as a permanent resident. As per PGWPP, students who are graduated from Canadian post secondary institution and have valuable experience can qualify for permanent residence in Canada through express entry.  The work permit issued under PGWPP is for the length of the study program or maximum upto three years.

The post graduation work permit cannot be longer than the study program of the student.  Let us suppose for an example, if you are enrolled into four year degree program, you are eligible to work for a three year work permit if you meet the requirements. If you graduate from an eight month certificate program, you would not be eligible to work more than eight months.
