Requirements for entry into Australia for Medicine and Dentistry course upon completion of MBBS BDS –

To further pursue study in Australia in Master of Dentistry or Medicine course, the initial step students are required to undertake include primary source verification of the qualifications student has attained through Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). After verification, students can apply for Australian Medical Council (AMC) assessment. For this, there are three assessment pathways – Competent Authority Pathway, Standard Pathway and Specialist Pathway.

  • Under Standard Pathway, non-specialist applicants are required to take an AMC CAT MCQ examination.
  • Under Competent Authority Pathway, non-specialist as well as general practitioners can apply. If applicants have passed recognized exams or have undertaken appropriate training from Board; only those applicants can apply through this pathway.
  • Under Specialist Pathway, the students who have completed training and examination requirements to practice can apply to become eligible to practice in Australia.
  • After the pathway assessment, the student can lodge his or her application for assessment with the Specialist College. The college might conduct face to face or video conferencing interview.
  • The last step requires registration with Australian Medical Board.
